My name is Rad Byerly and I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s five years ago. I tried several physical therapy approaches which for some reason or another failed me. One company went bankrupt. Then Carol learned about the “Y” boot camp now known as Gary Sobol’s Parkinson’s Network Foundations Class. I have been coming regularly for over a year and a half. The program works. Some days when my PD is flaring up in one way or another I have to force myself to come, maybe to get out of bed, but when the session is over the flare-up is too and I am glad I made the effort to get to the session. Part of it is the exercise session and part of it is the work that others are doing. We have great esprit de corps (group moral).
I’m Carol Byerly, Rad’s wife and I love Parkinson’s Foundation Class, too. It’s a way for us to constructively fight Parkinson’s Disease and is the best kind of support group one could hope for. I know it is a big effort for Rad to go regularly and transportation is not easy, but it is definitely worth it. Parkinson’s is a progressive disease but Rad is sharper, more fit and his posture is better than it was a year ago and that means the world to me. Thank you.
